Gardaí investigating the deaths of Michael and Denis Hanrahan in Moyvane, County Kerry, have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with their investigation.
Gardaí say he is from north Kerry but not from the Moyvane area.
He can be held for up to three days when he must be charged or released.
His arrest is the first since the murder investigation was launched on Thursday morning last after the bodies of Michael and Denis Hanrahan were discovered in their home at the Hill, Moyvane.
Gardai have questioned a number of people in connection with their deaths but until tonight none of these were being questioned as suspects.
The Hanrahan farmhouse remains sealed off and is at the centre of the ongoing investigation.
Gardaí say they have not yet located a murder weapon but it is expected that the search for the gun that killed the father and son will now be intensified.
The legally held shotgun licenced to Michael Hanrahan and up to eight spent cartridges found at the murder scene will be examined at Garda Headquarters in Dublin.
Tomorrow the team of 70 gardaí who are working on the case will also continue with house to house enquiries in the area.
