A man who was struck by a car in Lucan last March died from fatal crush injuries, the Dublin County Coroner's Court has heard.
Derek O'Toole was fatally injured after he was struck by a car driven by an off-duty Garda on the Main Street in Lucan on the morning of 4 March.
The 24-year-old from Clondalkin had been out socialising with friends and had just walked one friend home.
The Dublin County Coroner, Dr Kieran Geraghty, said a post mortem examination showed that Mr O'Toole died as a result of fatal crush injuries sustained to his head and chest due to vehicular trauma.
Garda investigations suggest Mr O'Toole was lying on the road when the car struck him. The officer was breathalysed at the time, and was not over the legal limit.
Gardaí say Derek did not appear to have been assaulted in any way prior to the incident, and no other vehicle was involved in the incident.
A Garda Inspector applied for the inquest to be adjourned to facilitate ongoing Garda investigations.
The Coroner adjourned proceedings until October.
The O'Toole family have previously said they want a full investigation into how their son lost his life.
