The winning ticket in last night's record-breaking Lotto jackpot of €8,606,212 was sold in Kilkenny.
The amount is the biggest win by a single ticket holder.
The National Lottery says the ticket was bought on Tuesday afternoon at the Statoil Service Station on the Castlecomer Road in Kilkenny.
It was a €4 quick pick ticket.
The lottery says that 3,000 people per minute were playing the lottery at its peak between 5pm and 7.45pm last night.
The winning numbers were 11, 13, 19, 23, 41, 44 and bonus 24.
