The family of Brian Murphy are to be given medical records and garda files pending a full inquest into his death outside a Dublin nightclub six years ago.

The Dublin Coroner's Court is to inquire into the cause of Mr Murphy's death at the outset of a full hearing.

Today, solicitor Celine O'Reilly, for the Murphy family, said they wanted medical records to contain all the reports on which State Pathologist Marie Cassidy gave her opinion on the cause of death.

Ms Cassidy found that Mr Murphy's injuries were relatively minor and would not have been expected to cause his death which she said may have been alcohol related.

The original pathologist, Professor John Harbison, found the deceased had died from head injuries caused by an assault.

Four south Dublin men who were charged in connection with Mr Murphy's death are expected to give evidence at the inquest.

Coroner Dr Brian O'Farrell also agreed to locate post mortem photographs for the Murphy family and adjourned the inquest until 6 October for mention.
