German gets life in retrial for eating man

A German man who killed and partly ate a man he had met through the internet has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Armin Meiwes had originally been found guilty of manslaughter after an earlier hearing agreed that his victim had consented.

But a judge ruled the eight-year sentence was too lenient and ordered a retrial.

Prosecutors in the new trial argued that Meiwes had a ‘fetish for human flesh’ and could re-offend.
