A self-confessed cannibal has been found guilty of manslaughter by a court in Germany, and has been jailed for eight and a half years.
Armin Meiwes, a 42-year-old computer expert, admitted killing and then eating another man three years ago after placing an advertisement on the Internet. His victim apparently volunteered to be killed and eaten.
The verdict fell short of the murder conviction that had been sought by prosecutors in the central German city of Kassel.
Mr Meiwes earlier publicly proclaimed his regret over what he did saying he had been driven by an obsession that began during a lonely childhood.
