Foley in court bid on newspaper allegations

A Dublin criminal nicknamed The Viper has begun High Court proceedings to stop a newspaper repeating allegations that he is a garda informer.

Martin Foley began the proceedings after the Sunday World published an article last month headlined, ‘Foley's a dead man walking’.

He claims the article, by the journalist Paul Williams, was profoundly irresponsible and endangered his life.

Mr Foley was not in the High Court today as lawyers on his behalf argued for an injunction to stop the Sunday World repeating allegations that he claims put his life in danger.

The article published in December was an extract from a new edition of Mr Williams’ book, Crimelords.

Mr Foley, who has survived three attempts on his life, claims the article infringes his right to life and caused him to be exposed to the threat of violence.
