Edvard Munch's masterpiece 'The Scream' has been stolen from an Oslo museum along with another famous painting by the great Norwegian artist.
Norwegian radio reported that the painting, worth about €60m and a version of another key work, 'The Madonna', were stolen.
Two masked thieves pulled the work off the wall as stunned visitors watched. One robber threatened staff with a gun before the pair escaped in a waiting car.
There are four versions of the famous painting, which has become an iconic symbol of Expressionist angst. It shows an individual on a bridge, hands clasped around the head and mouth wide open in an apparent yell of despair.
Another version of the painting was previously stolen from a special exhibition to mark the opening of the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in February 1994.
It was recovered undamaged three months later.
