The former Limerick city councillor, Michael Kelly, has now been moved from the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick to Cork University Hospital.

Alderman Kelly is being treated for serious head injuries he sustained in a shooting incident at his home this morning. He remains in a critical condition.

The incident occurred shortly before 9am this morning at a house in Lilac Court in the Southill area of Limerick.

It is the second time Alderman Kelly has been shot in recent years. He recovered after receiving pellet wounds to the abdomen at his home in Ballyneety two years ago.

Last December, he was sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted of VAT and social welfare fraud. He was released eight weeks ago after he was brought to hospital for a heart condition.
