The former football star, George Best, has been charged with driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
Scotland Yard says the former Manchester United player was charged after being arrested in the early hours of this morning in south-west London.
Best split from his wife, Alex, last September after failing to give up drinking despite undergoing a liver transplant in July 2002.
He is due before a Magistrates' Court on Monday.
