Gardaí are investigating an allegation of child sex abuse against a priest in the diocese of Cork and Ross. The priest is not currently ministering after he was asked to step aside while the investigation was going on.
A spokesman for Dr John Buckley, the Bishop of Cork and Ross, confirmed that a complaint was made to his office two years ago and the Gardaí were subsequently notified. The Garda investigation is continuing.
The spokesman said the diocese has been in periodic contact with the victim, the victim's family and with the priest at the centre of the investigation.
