The Bishop of Ferns, Dr. Brendan Comisky, has said he will be writing to four men abused as teenagers by Wexford priest, Fr Sean Fortune. All four have criticised the Bishop of Ferns, claiming he has had no contact with any of them, despite being aware of their circumstances.

Fr Sean Fortune committed suicide in 1999 shortly before court hearings took place in which he had been charged with dozens of counts of sexual assault on young boys. The main homily at his funeral was given by Dr Brendan Comisky.

Six of Fr Fortune's victims are now suing the Bishop, the Papal Nuncio and the Pope. In a television documentary last night, four men told their harrowing stories. One of the men, Damien McAlean, said that when he was 13 he was sexually assaulted by Fortune in Belfast.

He had kept it a secret for most of his life and is angry at Fr Fortune for having taken his own life.
