The jury in the Beverley Cooper-Flynn libel case at the High Court is continuing to hear closing arguments from lawyers representing the parties involved. In a closing speech today, Paul O'Higgins, counsel for farmer, James Howard, said that the case boiled down to James Howard's word against Beverley Cooper-Flynn's, corroborated to one degree or another by certain factors. He said that Mr Howard is not a fool or a knave. He added that the only logical conclusion is that he is telling the truth and the Fianna Fáil TD is not. Final closing speech on behalf of Ms Cooper-Flynn will be heard by the jury tomorrow morning.
