The publisher of “In Dublin” magazine, Mike Hogan, has said that he intends to honour undertakings not to publish advertisements relating to health studios or escort agencies. This follows the decision to lift the ban imposed by the Censorship of Publications Board. The High Court decided to lift the ban on "In Dublin", pending a judicial review of the decision by the Censorship of Publications Board to take it off the streets for six months. However, Mr. Justice Diarmuid O'Donovan ruled that the magazine could no longer contain the controversial advertisements.
The offer to exclude such advertisements was made by council for "In Dublin" in court yesterday. In his judgement, Mr. Justice O'Donovan was critical of the Censorship of Publications Board for failing to specify to Mr. Hogan what exactly was wrong with the advertisements. He also said that the board's failure to meet Mr. Hogan was unfair and their failure to tell him that they had effectively made a decision to ban the magazine last April was reprehensible.
