The Church of Ireland Gazette has attacked the recently-appointed Bishop of Cork, Right Reverend Paul Colton, for his decision to marry 'Posh Spice' Victoria Adams and Manchester United footballer David Beckham. The paper criticised the Bishop for giving preferential treatment to "well-heeled" celebrities. It claimed most priests would "shiver" at the ostentation of the wedding, which took place at Luttrelstown Castle and cost £500,000. The newspaper attacked the Church hierarchy for granting a special licence to the Beckhams, enabling them to marry on a Sunday in the Castle grounds.
