The BBC presenter, Jill Dando, has been murdered outside her home in London. The thirty-eight-year-old presenter of the Six O'Clock News, Crimewatch UK and Holiday was due to get married in the autumn. She was found outside her Fulham house with severe head injuries following what police describe as an horrific attack.
It is not yet clear if she had been stabbed or shot. Police are investigating reports that a man had been seen running away from the scene. Last year, Ms. Dando had been stalked by an obsessive fan.
London police have appealed for anyone who saw the man running away from the scene to come forward. He was described as a white male, between late 30s and 40s, 5ft 11in, with black hair. He was described as well groomed, and one person described him as wearing a suit, and he was carrying a mobile phone.
