If we're chatting to a friend who is having a tough time at the moment, we would reassure them that they’re doing great, that this is a strange time, and just getting through it, is good enough. However, we don’t always talk to ourselves in such a compassionate tone.
Many of us have a pretty critical inner voice that can be quite harsh and judgemental. Our inner critic can be even more amplified than usual at the moment because we're all out of our comfort zones as we try to adapt to a new normal.
