Lord Of The Rings star Andy Serkis has been announced as the latest cast member to join the highly anticipated superhero movie The Batman.
The British actor, known for voicing the character Gollum in the epic Lord Of The Rings films, has been confirmed to be playing butler Alfred by director Matt Reeves.
The role was famously played by Michael Caine in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, which starred Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader.
Announcing the news, Reeves tweeted a gif of Serkis high fiving fans on a red carpet with the caption: "And here comes Alfred!"
Irish actor Colin Farrell is reportedly in talks to star in the film as villain Penguin.
The Batman is due in cinemas on June 25, 2021.
