It is reported that singer Harry Styles is one of a number of young actors vying to star opposite Tom Hanks in director Baz Luhrmann's biopic of Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Entertainment trade website Deadline reports that with Hanks cast as Parker, director Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet) has been running the rule over potential leading men and "filmed a group of actors last weekend".
It says that along with Styles the other contenders are: Austin Butler (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Dead Don't Die), Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver, The Fault in Our Stars) and Miles Teller (the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, Whiplash).
Actors who have portrayed Elvis in the past include Bruce Campbell (Bubba Ho-Tep), Val Kilmer (True Romance), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (a Golden Globe winner for Elvis - TV miniseries), Kurt Russell (Elvis - TV movie) and Michael Shannon (Elvis & Nixon).
Former One Direction star Styles made his acting debut in 2017's Dunkirk.
Hanks is currently on Irish cinema screens voicing Woody in Toy Story 4.
