Titanic director James Cameron has saluted everyone who worked on Avengers: Endgame after the Disney/Marvel blockbuster overtook his 1997 epic as the second highest-grossing film of all time.
Writing on Twitter, Cameron said: "An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic.
"Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You've shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it's bigger than ever!"
Last Sunday it was announced that Avengers: Endgame had already taken over $2.188 billion worldwide, seeing off Titanic's $2.187 billion.
Cameron's 2009 sci-fi film Avatar leads the all-time box office list with $2.788 billion.
