Hall, Frank

Frank Hall (1921–95), was a journalist, broadcaster, and film censor.

Born in Down, he moved to Dublin, where he wrote a popular music column for the 'Evening Herald'. He joined Telefís Éireann on its inception in 1961 as a reporter in the newsroom.

After interviewing the Beatles before their 1963 Dublin gig, he famously predicted that they would not last. He presented 'The Late Late Show' for a year in 1964 and then 'Newsbeat' (1964–71) and 'Topical Talk' on radio.

His satirical show 'Hall's Pictorial Weekly' ran on RTÉ television for ten seasons (1971–80). Hall won two Jacob's awards, for “Newsbeat” (1966) and “Hall’s Pictorial Weekly” (1975). He was Ireland’s official film censor from 1978 to 1986.
