A Harvard student tells Proinsias Ó Conluain what it is like to attend Heaney's creative writing workshops. The poet doesn't regard a workshop as an appropriate place to discuss his own work, but gives public readings around the university. Because it is frustrating to write on your own, it is good to have someone to talk to about it.
Heaney himself says that it is hard to know what a workshop should be, but he tries to do things he would not do in a regular class.
