Designers Quin and Donnelly discuss their working wardrobes.

The duo behind fashion label Quin and Donnelly discuss their working wardrobes in this TV clip from 1989, when their brand was in its early days and stocked in A-Wear. Liz Quin and Carolyn Donnelly ran the hugely-successful womenswear label until 2011, supplying Brown Thomas and boutiques around the country.

Liz says they wear their own clothes a lot when representing the brand, but not while actually working because good clothes can get ruined in dusty factories. Carolyn has a cardigan she spent two years knitting from a 1940s ‘Woman’s Own’ pattern. She wears it quite a lot. They’ve been working with leopard print since running the shop Ritzy in Trinity Street, Dublin, and still wear that too. Liz often makes miniature adult clothes for her two-year-old daughter Hannah from leftover fabrics.

Liz Quin now has her own design studio and works as a guest designer for other labels. Carolyn Donnelly became creative director of Dunnes Stores in 2012.
