Cork and Limerick Savings Bank has no share holders and no owners. It was set up in the last century to provide a community service somewhat similar to the one provided today by the League of Credit Unions. Legislation passed last year now allows the Cork and Limerick Savings Bank to compete with commercial banks and allows the trustees to sell the bank, proceeds of which sale would, in the event, go to the Minister for Finance.
