Ceremonies take place across Northern Ireland to mark St Patrick's Day.

Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich blesses shamrock at a special mass in Irish in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh. He said Irish patriotism was not confined to one religious denomination or one political allegiance.

In Downpatrick, the annual service in the Church of Ireland Cathedral was switched to Downpatrick Parish Church as renovations were taking place at the cathedral.

In Lurgan, there was a parade which included the Irish National Foresters. There was a strong RUC presence after threats from a national front group to hold a counter-demonstration.
