96 feature films and 22 shorts from about 25 countries were on offer at the 1986 Dublin Film Festival.
The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) 2015 runs from 19 to 29 March. The JDIFF has been running since 2003.
The festival's predecessor was the Dublin Film Festival, and was first held 30 years ago in 1985. In 1986 one of the festival founders, Michael Dwyer, spoke to Morning Ireland about the event.
David Hanly speaks to Michael Dwyer about the programming and scheduling for the festival. In 1986 the festival consisted of 96 feature films and 22 shorts from about 25 countries. Also on the programme was Betty Blue, a favourite of Dwyers, which was already sold out. With 10,000 tickets already sold, the festival is proving very popular, with many distributors seeing the festival as a testing ground for films.
The event is proving very popular with many distributors using it to try out new releases on audiences. In 1986 the opening film was 'Heartburn' starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. This year's festival is opened with the premiere of the Eileen Gray biopic, 'The Price of Desire'.
