Residents of Ballymurphy in Belfast protest against British Army searches in their district.
Residents of Upper Springfield Road in Belfast protest against the non-stop searching by the British Army. Troops carried out a massive spot-check of vehicles and pedestrians as roadblocks were set up on all routes leading into the Ballygomartin, Ballymurphy and Whiterock districts. This was a bigger operation than usual, with schoolchildren, women and those going to work searched.
Unhappy at the perceived intimidation, people from the area made their protest about the searches. A group of about 80 women gather outside the Taggart Memorial Hall to protest at the presence of the British Army. They also protest about Special Branch detectives and British troops surrounding houses and gardens in Ballymurphy.
