Objects crafted in Ireland from the Bronze Age and Viking era have been brought for display in Frankfurt.
The National Museum of Ireland has opened a major exhibition of Irish treasures in the historic Paulskirche in Frankfurt, Germany.
Organised in partnership with the Cultural Relations Committee of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the City of Frankfurt, the exhibition was officially inaugurated by Christopher Fogarty, the Irish Ambassador in Bonn.
The display features 88 pieces of personal ornament, crafted mainly from gold and silver, illustrating the development of Irish civilisation from the early Bronze Age through to the Viking era.
The changing fashions down the years show the variations of ornament and techniques of metalwork.
This marks the first occasion on which a collection of Irish gold has been selected for exhibition outside Ireland.
