A sand sculpture created by Tibetan Buddhist monks in Dublin is tipped into the Liffey.
Three Buddhist monks working in the Chester Beatty Library created a sculpture from hand ground coloured marble.
Known as a mandala, it was designed to represent the Buddha of Compassion.
The monks completed the mandala in front of an audience by placing a flower blessed by the Dalai Lama in the centre. The monks created the mandala to pray for peace in Northern Ireland. The five colours used in the work represent the five Buddha families.
The mandala was scooped into an urn as a symbol of the impermanence of everything.
The monks then led a procession from Dublin Castle to the city quays, where the coloured sands were tipped into the Liffey.
