Eighteen men protesting over housing conditions by occupying Griffith Barracks have left the property.

A section of Griffith Barracks had been converted into living accommodation for homeless women and children. Their husbands were excluded from this arrangement and left to find accommodation for themselves. This has led to families being split.

Earlier in the day, members of the Dublin Health Authority, accompanied by around 20 Gardaí, had requested that the men leave the barracks. The men refused. The authorities broke down the doors, with the men retreating from room to room until they finally agreed to leave the property.

They placed their belongings in prams and tea-chests and left with their wives and families. Holding protest placards, they headed for Dublin city centre to continue their protest. One of the placards read,
