Having won two events at the Mardyke, Maeve Kyle spoke of her hopes for women in sport in Ireland.

This was the first time for Olympian Maeve Kyle to compete at the Cork City Sports. Afterwards, she was very complimentary of the event at the Mardyke, describing it as a first class meeting.

Speaking to Bill Twomey, Maeve Kyle explains that she has not been sprinting for over two years and prefers to run the quarter mile. Competing in Cork, she won the 100 Yards Ladies' Championship and the 220 Yards Ladies' Championship.

Maeve Kyle is optimistic about the future of women's athletics in Ireland. Women need to continue to press for competition and recognition. In the end, all the effort and the hard work to be a success is worth it.

You won't go very far nowadays unless you work very hard.

Already an Irish hockey international, Maeve Kyle was encouraged to take up athletics by her husband, Seán. The year before they married, she took up running to get fit for the World Hockey Championships. Seán devised a training programme for Maeve and her love for athletics grew from there.

On her future plans, Maeve Kyle says,

I'll go on running as long as I enjoy it.
