The RTÉ Audience Council will provide communication between the broadcaster and the public.
The audience council is made up of 15 members of the public to provide a formal structure by which RTÉ can interact with people who use the media providers services. Members of the council have different backgrounds, life experiences and points of view.
Aoife MacLysaght, a member of the RTÉ Audience Council, believes individuals were chosen for the diverse views they offer.
I think the importance is in representing in one room a broad range of interests and opinions.
Another audeince council member Gerry Ellis is a blind man with a specific interest in inclusivity and accessibility as the technology used for watching television and listening to radio changes.
The RTÉ Audience Council reports back to the RTÉ Board. Chair of the council, Professor Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh, explains that it also has a responsibility to meet with the public and report to them.
