Hughie Jordan explains haggis and how Scotland celebrates the legacy of poet Robert Burns every year.
Hughie Jordan joins Geri Lalor to talk about how Scotland celebrates the poetry and life of Robert Burns (1759-1796). On the 25 January, Scottish people all over the world celebrate Robert Burns.
All over Scotland tonight, people will be eating haggis for their dinner in celebration of Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet.
'There's Nought But Care' to the tune of 'Green Grow The Rashes' is a song regularly performed at Burns night dinners and is a song in praise of women.
Made from a mixture of beef, mutton, barley and spices, haggis is a popular dish all over Scotland and is especially popular on Burns night. There are variations in the recipe for haggis and the champion haggis of the world is in fact made by an Irish man named Joe Morrell from East Belfast. He created his own recipe, entered it in the World Haggis Championship and won. Geri Lalor tries the world champion haggis served by Hughie Jordan.
