Local government officials head to Europe to learn about housing construction.

A group of twenty one housing officials fly to Europe to examine the latest housing developments in Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Among the party to travel is The Lord Mayor of Dublin Alderman Seán Moore TD, ten members of the Dublin Corporation along with officials from the Department of Local Government and the Corporation Housing Department. They will visit housing schemes in three cities and hear about developments in building methods.

The Lord Mayor has been informed that building firms in Europe can build homes at a much speedier rate than can be done in Ireland. He hopes that the trip will provide a system to alleviate the terrible housing shortage that exists in Dublin. Looking at how our neighbours in Europe work might help provide a solution to the problem of dangerous buildings.

Will it give us the type of housing that is proper for the people?

The purpose of the trip is to substantiate if the claim made by European builders that they can build a house in a week.
