Dublin city centre stores look to maintain retail revenue growth with post Christmas sales.
Two days after Christmas and the department stores begin their sales. A year ago, the country was in the middle of a currency crisis and spending was down.
The sales juggernaut is already at full speed.
Interest rates have fallen this year resulting in greater disposable income. Dublin stores reported a surge in business in the days just before Christmas and hope to maintain this momentum for the sales.
This year will show a significant improvement on last year.
An extra 5 per cent of VAT on clothing is being blamed for relatively poor sales before Christmas. It has not stopped the search for bargains in the sales.
Not all city centre department stores have reopened and some of the bigger shops like Clerys will reopen tomorrow and launch their post-Christmas sales. Some stores will not begin their sales until the new year.
