Ahead of the Christmas holiday period the public are asked to donate blood to the health service.

Frank Hall gives a pint of blood and urges others to follow suit. He likens the pleasure of donating blood to giving a Christmas gift. This would be a gift of blood for someone who needs it. The only difference between giving blood and giving a present is that you do not know who will receive the blood.

This in a way is a small Christmas gift for someone who may be short of some necessary blood over Christmas.

It is at this time of year that donations fall off making them even more important. Part of the problem is that Pelican House is closed over the Christmas period so there is no place for people to give blood.

Frank Hall describes the process of giving blood as entirely painless and a donor is treated to a cup of tea or a bottle of stout.
