Period dress and fun in boats at the Grand Canal Festival in Robertstown, County Kildare.

Over 24,000 visitors are expected to attend the two-week Grand Canal Festa which opened in Robertstown, County Kildare. The festival was officially opened by the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, Most Rev Dr Lennon. The festival is organised by the Robertstown Guild of Muintir na Tíre.

The open-air entertainment included people dressed in 18th-century costumes and a barge ride along the canal. The festival programme includes a candlelight banquet, a cricket match in period costumes, and archaeological and art exhibitions.
