Parades are held in nineteen locations across Northern Ireland to mark the Twelfth of July.

The biggest parades were in Belfast, where the Orange Order's Grand Master Reverend Martin Smith MP (Member of Parliament) lead the main parade.

Capital punishment has been a subject which featured in many speeches at demonstrations today. The majority of Orangemen are in favour of maintaining the status quo on this issue, which will be voted on by the British parliament tomorrow.

The late Reverend Robert Bradford was remembered at today’s parade. The Westminster MP (Member of Parliament) who was shot dead by the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in 1981 was depicted in a banner borne by one Belfast Orange Lodge.

The RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary) maintained a strong presence, and there were no incidents in Belfast city centre, the emphasis being on a family day out.
