Sorrento Terrace home sold at a record price for an Irish property.

The six bedroom end of terrace house on Sorrento Terrace in Dalkey sold for £5,900,000 to a mystery buyer. This price is almost double the previous record price for an Irish property.

You would need to hold out for a bank holiday weekend rollover jackpot if you wanted to have your slippers by the fire in Sorrento House.

Sorrento Terrace is a much sought after location in Dalkey with famous names like Neil Jordan, Eddie Irvine and Van Morrison making homes in the area.

The house was described by the estate agent as "the finest seaside house on the east coast".

The house has been owned by 96 year old Dorothy Lavery and her family for the past 49 years. Dorothy is now downsizing but was shocked at the price she received for her home.

Auctioneer Tom Day of Lisneys said he was surprised the house sold for £5.9 million but said it was a very special property.

The stamp duty on the property will run to over half a million pounds.
