Department store sales begin with crowds looking for bargains at Clerys in Dublin.

The post-Christmas sales have begun with Clerys department store on O'Connell Street Dublin starting their sale on a Sunday for the first time.

Clerys clock in Dublin has long been a traditional meeting place for people down through the years.

On the first day of the post-Christmas sales, hundreds queued outside the shop to grab a bargain.

Dubliner Anthony Hayes has been waiting since St Stephen's night to get his hands on a portable television reduced from around £200 to £50.

The long wait ended when the doors opened at one o'clock sharp.

Mary O'Neill from Maynooth was the first to reach the counter and buy a £50 portable television. Anthony Hayes did not lose out and also managed to get a bargain television.

General manager of Clerys Tom Rea is pleased with the large number of shoppers considering that it is the first time the store have started a sale on a Sunday.
