Christmas atmosphere in Amiens Street railway station Dublin.

Amiens Street Station one of the principal rail stations in Dublin serves the north, north-west, south-east and south-west of the country.

This is the first year that the station has been decorated for Christmas in its entirety. Norris Davidson describes how holly, ivy and fairy lights create a very festive atmosphere for passengers.

If you were told that this is ordinary everyday Amiens Street station you would be rather surprised.

The Christmas decorations were the idea of the station master Mr Farrelly. He thanks the local businesses who provided assistance, and the workers of Amiens Street station, who gave of their own time.

The staff here take a pride in their station.

The passengers making their way home for Christmas this evening are bound for Belfast, Portadown and Enniskillen, with connections to Monaghan, Clones, Dundalk, Drogheda and Oldcastle.

The Radio Éireann programme 'Christmas Preparations’ was broadcast on 24 December 1949. The reporter is Norris Davidson.

In 1966 the fiftieth anniversary of the Easter Rising Amiens Street Station was renamed Connolly Station after the revolutionary James Connolly who was executed for his role in the 1916 Rising.
