Gardaí have issued a misinformation notice in relation to an alleged assault in Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon, last Friday.
Gardaí say there is a "significant degree of misinformation" circulating about the alleged incident, adding that the investigation into the incident does not involve anyone seeking international protection.
"We appeal to you all to always independently verify the content published on social media and which may be shared with you through a direct messaging app," they added.
The notice came after calls for the Minister for Justice to boost policing resources in Co Roscommon, amid concerns over rural crime and antisocial behaviour.

Several hundred people attended a demonstration in the town yesterday evening following separate incidents there in recent days.
Independent Roscommon County Councillor Micheál Frain told the gathering that there was a "scandalous lack of resources" in the town.
He said the Minister and garda authorities needed to do more to protect people by increasing the number of officers on duty in the area.
The protest was organised by a group of local residents.
After the initial alleged incident, a number of people gathered in the town on Saturday night, during which two properties were reportedly attacked.
While the group dispersed when gardaí arrived at the scene, an investigation is under way after an unoccupied house was damaged, with a neighbouring premises also subjected to "minor damage".
No arrests have been made in connection with either incident.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
