An investigation is under way into the death of a man whose body was found in Cork.

Gardaí were called to a house at Curraheen Drive in Bishopstown shortly after 4pm where the man, who was in his 40s, was discovered by family members.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

The scene was preserved both the office of the State Pathologist and local coroner have been notified.

The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
