The FBD-owned Castleknock Hotel and Country Club is to undergo a €7m expansion that will see capacity at the resort increase by 46 rooms to 190.

Construction is set to begin in November and finish early in 2018, with up to 100 jobs to be created during the construction phase of the project, and 20 full-time positions when the redevelopment is completed.

FBD Hotels & Resorts is currently inviting tenders for the work.

Last October investment group Farmers Business Developments plc acquired the 50% holding of its former joint venture partner – insurer FBD – for €48.5m and now wholly owns the hotel company.

The additional 46 rooms planned as part of the development will comprise 38 standard, five superior and three deluxe rooms.

As part of the expansion plan, the day spa – currently located on the first floor of the hotel – will move to the ground floor, with the addition of a new aerobics suite and five new treatment rooms.

The new day spa and leisure centre will have its own entrance, as well as being accessible from the hotel.

The planning application was lodged in December 2015 with Fingal Co Council by Dublin architects, Cantrell and Crowley Architects, on behalf of FBDH&R.

CEO of FBDH&R David Kelly said: “Castleknock Hotel is in a prime location and has been performing consistently well since the economic recovery began. With all the indicators pointing to a continued demand for hotel rooms in the capital, our expansion is timely. We look forward to construction beginning in earnest imminently.”

FBDH&R owns and manages three hotels in Ireland; Castleknock Hotel and Country Club, Dublin; Faithlegg House Hotel, Waterford; Tower Hotel, Waterford.

It also has two resorts in southern Spain; La Cala Resort and Sunset Beach Club.
