Recruitment company CPL Resources is promising 160 new jobs in Ireland over the next two years and 40 further roles abroad. The positions will include recruitment, sales and marketing jobs and will be spread across its operations in Ireland, the UK and Eastern Europe.
CPL's chief executive Anne Heraty says the company's expansion plans are a good indicator of the growing strength in the Irish economy. Ms Heraty says there is great demand for skilled workers and she hears employers saying that finding skilled workers is one of the biggest challenges facing them and it is an issue which is constraining the growth of their business. The demand is also pretty much spread across all sectors, she adds.
The CPL CEO says the company conducted a very successful campaign last year with the Diaspora and it attracted 3,000 people home. A number of skilled people left Ireland during the downturn - and people are continuing to leave jobs here to work abroad - and Ms Heraty says her company wants to work with the Diaspora to bring people back to Ireland. She says that most people come back to Ireland for family reasons and because it is a good place to live and work. The company is working with a number of diaspora groups in the UK, US and Australia to get the message out there that the Irish economy is growing and that there are fantastic job opportunities here.
However, there are some difficult barriers to surmount to attract people back to Ireland, including sorting out the housing crisis and high rents. She points out that both Dublin and Cork are really suffering at the moment in the housing crisis. She says it is not always about pay for people coming back to work here, adding that access to good quality housing, good infrastructure and good education are also key issues. That is why it is so important for the country to invest in improving the country's infrastructure, roads network and trains and - most importantly of all - the country's education system, she adds.

MORNING BRIEFS - Telecoms group Eir has reported earnings - before accounting for interest on its debt, depreciation of its assets and tax - of €120m for the three months to the end of September. That is up 6% on the same period last year. Eir's revenue was up 4% to €325m during the quarter. The company has signed up 25,000 new mobile customers over the past year and 66,000 new broadband users.
*** The private equity group Blackstone is in line for a €43m profit on the sale of a pair of buildings in Dublin bought less than two years ago. The Irish Times reports this morning that Blackstone has agreed to sell the Bloodstone Building and an neighbouring office block on Britain Quay for €123m, a 54% gain on what it paid for them in 2013.
*** Singer Adele has broken a 15 year old record for the highest number of albums sold in the first week of release for her latest record, "25". It has sold 2.4 million units between paid downloads and physical formats since it was released last Friday. That beats Nsync's No Strings Attached which came out in the year 2000 in the pre-streaming and pre-iTunes era when CD sales were close to their peak. Adele is withholding the album from streaming services such as Spotify for now in a bid to boost sales.
*** New guidelines on appointments are changing the composition of State boards and improving their performance, according to the Institute of Directors. The IoD surveyed 77 of its members who have sat on State Boards over the past three years, following up a similar exercise it undertook three years ago. 70% of the respondents, albeit from a small sample size, said the appointments process was fair and transparent compared to just 26% who held that view when it asked the same question of its members three years ago.
