Unemployment rate unchanged at 9.5% in August

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 9.5%, unchanged from the previous month's rate.

It compares to a rate of 11.1% in August of last year, according to figures from the CSO. 

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 206,500 in August.

That was an increase of 400 when compared to the July figure or a decrease of 32,200 when compared to August of last year.

The number of males unemployed in August was 127,000, unchanged on the July figure.

In August, the number of females unemployed was 79,500, an increase of 400 from the July figure.

The seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 20.7% in August 2015, unchanged from July.

Youth unemployment is categorised as persons aged between 15 and 24 years.
