Former Aer Lingus CEO Christoph Mueller has stepped down from his role as chairman of An Post.

Mr Mueller was appointed to the role in March 2013.

He took the position after leaving the Irish carrier to become CEO of Malaysia Airlines.

However, he has now asked to be released from his duties with the postal firm, which has been agreed by Minister for Communications Alex White.

Mr White said he accepted the resignation “with regret” and went on to thank Mr Mueller “warmly for the excellent services he has given to An Post over the last two years”.

A replacement for Mr Mueller will be sought shortly, Mr White said, with any appointment being made in accordance with the Government’s new guidelines on State boards.

Mr Mueller had also served on the board of Tourism Ireland, but left that position last week.
