Aer Lingus's largest shareholder Ryanair today said it expects International Airlines Group to make a new bid for the former Irish flag carrier within days.

Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs told journalists in Dublin that it expects that British Airways owner IAG will make a third bid this week for Aer Lingus.

Mr Jacobs added that Ryanair has no particular concerns about British Airways owner IAG taking over Aer Lingus.

He said that Ryanair has not been approached directly by IAG about its near 30% stake in Aer Lingus.

Yesterday, the Government confirmed that it remains open to a sale of its 25% stake in Aer Lingus.

On Friday it emerged that British Airways parent company IAG had made an increased bid of €2.40 per share for the Irish airline.

The higher offer has been rejected by the Aer Lingus board.
