84% of people retiring in 2011 received no retirement planning support according to the Retirement Planning Council.

Joan Burton, Minister for Social Protection will today officially open the new offices of the Retirement Planning Council.

The council is a not-for-profit organisation aimed at helping those who wish to plan for retirement.

The services are provided at no cost to the state and new offices with dedicated in-house training facilities have been acquired to meet current and future demand.

The Council has published a guide for employers to assist employees preparing for retirement. CEO of the council John Higgins said the organisation aims to give retirement planning support to as many retirees as possible.
