Car sales in November are down by almost half year-on-year, according to latest figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
SIMI said each of the last three months has been down 50% compared to the same month in 2010, with the decline due to the ending of the car scrappage scheme.
Only 779 cars were sold in November.
The society is concerned that a proposed 2% increase in VAT could impact on car sales even further.
